Many speak about how they ‘lack motivation’ to do things.

Motivation is an unreliable source of work ethic. This is because motivation comes and wanes.

In order to compete in the ultra-competitive world of entrepreneurship, you can’t be working hard some days, and taking it easy other days. This allows your competitors with consistent discipline to catch up and surpass you, easily.

This means if you need ‘motivation’ to do anything, you’ll never win in the game of business.

Motivation is just an emotion.

But discipline is gained over time through progressive overload.

Whereas motivation is just a feeling, discipline is strength.

Discipline is like your ability to pick up a 45lb weight. If you can do it yesterday, you can do it today. Discipline is the ability to do things without feeling like it.

Likewise, if you can sit down for 4 hours in a row to grind out some work even if you don’t feel like it without struggle yesterday, you’ll have the strength to do that today. And tomorrow. And forever.

I’ll talk about how to build up discipline in the next post.
